Just in time for back to school! On August 11th, Governor Gina Raimondo signed into law a bill that will ensure Rhode Island continues its proud tradition of providing a healthy school environment for children. The new law updates the state’s competitive foods statute to align with new federal guidelines for snacks and beverages sold in schools. The law also ensures that Rhode Island’s existing stronger standards will be retained: the state does not allow artificial sweeteners or caffeine in high schools; the standards apply to all in-school fundraisers (zero exemptions); and the standards extend one hour after the end of the instructional school day.Congrats, Rhode Island!
