Did you know that on average, kids drink more than 30 gallons of sugary drinks per year – enough to fill a bathtub?
Every child deserves to grow up healthy. But the overconsumption of sugary drinks contributes to children’s increasing rates of type 2 diabetes, tooth decay and heart problems. These diseases set children up for a lifetime of health challenges and have a disproportionate impact on Black and Latino families. We understand now that diseases like obesity can also increase the risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
We must take action to make it easier for children to reach for healthy drinks, like water and plain milk, when they want to quench their thirst. This includes making safe and appealing drinking water available in public places and ensuring healthy drinks are accessible for kids everywhere.
Add your name today and find out ways you can help ensure that healthy drink options are accessible to kids, in order to reduce the risk of chronic disease.
