As after-school programs across the country fear loss of federal funds, a new report from theGovernment Accountability Office could muddy the waters.The GAO released a report Wednesday saying the Department of Education needs to improve its oversight of the program by updating the way it measures program outcomes.Supporters of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, which provides after-school and summer enrichment for 1.6 million children across the nation, are not surprised.“We don’t disagree with the recommendations,” said Jodi Grant, executive director of the Afterschool Alliance, an after-school advocacy group. “Some were already addressed in the new Every Student Succeeds Act.”For the entire article, click here.
