Yesterday, the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services - joined by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Councilmember Dannielle Glaros and others - announced the expansion of the Maryland Market Money Program in Prince George’s County.

Maryland Market Money is a statewide program that incentivizes those receiving federal nutrition benefits to shop at local farmers markets by matching the dollars they receive in benefits, in most cases up to five dollars per person per market day.

On Wednesday, The Department of Social Services, responsible for the oversight of Maryland Market Money dollars, received more than $100,000 in the county’s 2020 budget to expand the program.Benefits that qualify for this program include SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children), and FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program).
