Exciting news from Hawaii! Governor Ige signed S.B. 549, a bill that promotes healthy meal options for children! The bill supports parents’ efforts to feed their children nutritious food by ensuring that healthy beverages are the default option in kids’ meals purchased at restaurants in the state.
The default options in kids’ meals would include:
water, sparkling water, or flavored water, with no added sugar, corn syrup, or other natural or artificial sweeteners
unflavored nonfat or low-fat (one per cent) dairy milk
one hundred per cent fruit juice or vegetable juice, or fruit juice or vegetable juice combined with water or carbonated water, with no added natural or artificial sweetener
Kids’ meals in the state will have healthy beverages as the default option starting January 1, 2020.Congratulations to the American Heart Association Hawaii and to all advocates and volunteers who are working to make each day healthier for all children!
