Boulder County commissioners voted Tuesday to support a citizen-initiated municipal ballot measure that would impose a new 2 cents per ounce city of Boulder excise tax on distributors of sodas and other sugary drinks.Commissioners and their staff noted that the position conforms to a policy the county board adopted last winter: "To support legislation and other efforts to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages."The tax would apply to bottled and fountain drinks with 5 grams or more of added sugar per 12 ounces. Milk products, baby formula, medical beverages and alcohol are excluded, as are 100 percent fruit and vegetable juices.
