When completed, the San Francisco Bay Trail will provide a 500-mile continuous regional network around the San Francisco Bay, connecting 9 counties, 47 cities, and crossing 7 toll bridges. More than 340 miles of Bay Trail are complete, with segments existing in all cities and counties and the longest continuous stretches ranging from 15 to 26 miles. Of the 7 toll bridges in the region, 4 bridges and half of another bridge have a separated bicycle and pedestrian pathway on the structure that is part of the network.

The foundation of the Bay Trail Plan is to create a continuous shared use path open to the widest range of users. The Trail provides an alternative commute route for bicyclists and connects to numerous public transportation facilities.This project is made possible through a partnership with The State Coastal Conservancy, a principal funding source for the development of the Bay Trail.
