Herald-Mail MediaWashington County Public Schools officials are working through wellness policy updates to address a federal directive that aims to create a healthier school environment as the nation continues to look for ways to combat childhood obesity.In July, the United States Department of Agriculture issued a policy ruling that requires local school systems to improve written wellness policies to include more school and community participation — a measure the agency hopes will strengthen school nutrition, physical activity and promote student health."Through that process, we’re looking at our overall wellness practices to see if there are things we want to do, maybe even above and beyond what is required by USDA," said Jeff Proulx, supervisor of food and nutrition services for county schools.For the entire article, click here.
