In California, it is law that public schools provide students with physical education (PE) at least 40 minutes on average per day in high schools. Because of this, students are more physically active and it prepares students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence toward their health at an early age. The Los Angeles Unified School District conducted an audit and found out that many schools were not enforcing the PE laws and obesity rates in those schools were consistently higher than in other districts.

Advocates changed that! A coalition of parents, educators and administrators came together to raise awareness on the lack of PE time. The results of gaining the support from the community aligned has seen one out of every four schools visited are now making changes to their PE programs after this effort.Read the full story here.
