Advancing Policy: Guides to Finding Common Ground and Solutions with Decision Makers

Phase Two: Advocating for Local Decision-Making

Finding common ground and win-win solutions in policy negotiation is an art that blends close listening, two-way conversations and meaningful relationships of trust built over time. To that end, Voices for Healthy Kids is excited to share the second phase of our newest messaging series!

Voices for Healthy Kids offers this resource as part of the services we provide to empower advocates and drive for meaningful policy change in every state. We hope it helps open the space to advance policies that benefit all families, babies and toddlers.

Advocating for Local Decision-Making

April 5, 2023 11:00 am PT/12:00 MT/1:00 pm CT/2:00 pm ET

Join us April 5, 2023, from 2-3:30 pm ET for new message research and tools you can use to protect local decision-making on health and wellbeing policies.

The research follows our archetypes model and will roll out as an update to our online guide, “Finding Commonalities and Solutions with Decision-Makers.” You might be familiar with the site —and the prenatal-through-three message research—which we created in response to advocates’ requests for help talking with decision-makers whose priorities and values differ from their own. With a focus on building understanding and trust, advancing productive policy conversations, and caring for yourself as an advocate, this update focuses on efforts to limit preemption and protect local communities’ power to create what they need for health and well-being.

You are welcome to attend the live training only. For maximum benefit, we recommend about 90 minutes of preparation:

  • Recommended pre-training preparation: Prior to the event, we’ll share a set of recorded modules and discussion prompts that allow you go to more deeply into the research and tools.

  • Live training April 5: During the training we will share a brief overview of the research and tools, and then spend the bulk of our time in discussion and role plays to build skills.
