Because the grant awarded was less than the amount needed for the project, the project was scaled back to a section of independent utility 16 miles long through the three cities. An additional $15 million in local and private sector funding has been committed as matching funds to complete the greenway. The majority of funds will be used to provide a 12-foot shared use path, and there are several portions of the trail using the existing right-of-way of I-540. The trail is designed to meet accessibility guidelines.
