Minnesota Safe Routes to School

Health and school advocates in Minnesota created the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) funding program to make communities safer for students to walk and bike to school. This program provided planning and street improvements, such as safer cross walks and bike trails. The initiative was so successful, a coalition of over 40 organizations established a state-based SRTS program in 2012 and secured more than $1 million annual state funding in 2014.
