Keep Kids On a Healthy Path After School

Voices for Healthy Kids supports policy changes that ensure all children will grow up at a healthy weight where they live, learn, and play.

Out-of-school time programs, including before and after-school care, weekend, and summer programs, can play a key role in helping improve the health of our children. These programs can help ensure kids have healthier food options and more opportunities for physical activity when they are outside the classroom

This is why we focus on keeping kids on a healthy path through good nutrition, limited screen time activities that keep them moving. When it comes to out-of-school time, our focus includes the following:

  • Establish the adoption of statewide healthy eating and physical activity (HEPA) standards for out-of-school time providers.
  • Secure grant resources and technical assistance for out-of-school time providers.
  • Create recognition or designation program.
  • Eliminate marketing in out-of-school time settings.
