in Junk Food Marketing
Governor Jerry Brown has signed Assembly Bill 841, which was the last step in the legislative process. AB 841 faced opposition from the Grocers Manufactures Association, but was ultimately successful because of the campaign’s strong grassroots efforts. The bill passed the Assembly with 42-29 and the Senate 53-25.
Assembly Bill 841 prohibits the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages on school campuses during the school day, as defined by the USDA within the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. AB 841 will impact over six million Californian students.
California is one of the first states to pass legislation to protect children and prohibit the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages in schools!
