Out-of-School

Voices for Healthy Kids supports policy changes that ensure all children will grow up at a healthy weight where they play.

Out-of-school time, often called afterschool or extended care, is much more than play time. Active play is a critical component to physical as well as social development. During the formative years of birth to five, children’s needs for healthy foods and active play grow as fast as they do.

This is why our focus is on setting kids up for success through good nutrition, limited screen time, and lots of fun and games that keep them moving.

Pursue policy change that requires out-of-school programs meet healthy eating and physical activity standards—including these standards in recognition programs and accreditation programs, as well as in certification and rating systems.
